SUNO Knights qualify for NAIA Indoor Championships

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Eight individuals and two relay teams at Southern University at New Orleans have posted times that will qualify them for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships, coming up March 5-7 in Geneva, Ohio.

On the men's side, Alex Saunders (1:53.78) and Sanj Powell (1:57.17) both qualify in the 800 meter run. Brian Smith will compete in the 400 meters after posting a time of 48.58 earlier this season. Chadwayne Vidal's time of 6.90 earned him a spot in the field at 60 meters.

The quintet of Chad Thomas, Rodrick Owens, Smith, Saunders and Powell punched their ticket in the 4x400 relays with a time of 3:19.02.

The Lady Knights are led by the efforts of Leonie Robinson and Chantal Pennie. The two ladies qualified in both the 60 meters and 200 meters. Robinson posted times of 7.61 in the 60m and 25.47 in the 200. Pennie qualified with marks of 7.81 and 25.64 in the two events.

Orenthia Bennett wil compete in two events as well, qualifying at 400 (56.05) and 800 (2:16.33) meters. Shadae Hylton will join her in the 400 meter field after making her qualifying time of 58.47.

The team of Robinson, Bennett, Pennie, Oshin Gilings-Brooks and Hylton qualified in the 4x400 meter relay with their mark of 3:51.77.
