Talladega, Wiley Notch Spots in Black College World Series

The Talladega College baseball team has been selected to take part in the 2024 Black College World Series schedule with revised game times. The games will continue to start Wednesday, May 8th, and run through May 11th with the national championship slated for Saturday, May 11.

The announced full Black College World Series (BCWS) 2024 schedule is a double elimination format until the final when the remaining two teams play a single game (or a second game if necessary) to decide on a national champion.

The first game on Wednesday, May 8 is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Central Time. The second game is slated for the afternoon with a 12:30 p.m. start time and game three will get underway at 4:00 p.m. All games will be played Central Standard Time.

The tournament field has been reduced. Six Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) will compete for the fourth BCWS championship.

Talladega plays a very competitive schedule in the HBCU small school. The Tornadoes schedule 20-plus games against top-rank teams in the NAIA Top 25. Head coach Marco Dominguez's team is hard to beat when they click on all cylinders at the plate. Talladega knocked off the No. 2, No. 10, and No. 15 ranked teams in the NAIA Top 25 this season.

Wildcats in the Tourney Again
For the second consecutive season, the Wiley University Baseball team was selected to participate in the 2024 Black College World Series from May 8 to 11 at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Ala.

The tournament is divided into two four-team double-elimination brackets for NCAA Division II and NAIA schools. The winners of each bracket will meet in the championship on May 11. Schools are selected based on their ranking in the Black College Nines Weekly Top Ten Polls. Black College Nines is a website devoted to the coverage of Historically Black Colleges and Universities Baseball teams. Matchups and times will be forthcoming. Tickets can be bought online.

The Wildcats (28-19) earned the second seed and was ranked eighth in the poll that was published on April 29. They are coming off a runner-up finish in the 2024 Hope Credit Union Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Championship. Wiley won three games in the loser's bracket to advance to the championship. It played a challenging schedule with four of its opponents at one time ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 polls.

Talladega College (36-15), the GCAC Baseball Championship champion, earned the top seed. It has several victories over Top 25 NAIA schools. Florida Memorial, which won last year's Black College World Series, earned the third seed. It won 20 games, including one against the No. 1 team in the NAIA. Jarvis Christian University, which is competing in the 2024 Red River Athletic Conference Baseball Championship, earned the fourth seed. Xavier University of Louisiana is the alternate in case any team declines to participate.

Where: Riverwalk Stadium (home of the Tampa Bay Rays Double-A affiliate Montgomery Biscuits) 200 Coosa Street, Montgomery, Alabama 36104, who play in the Southern League.
