
Wiley Blanks Miles College, Gets Rematch Against Talladega in BCWS

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Wiley University baseball team scored first and didn't look back, dominating Miles College 10-0 in the opening game of the 2024 Black College World Series on Wednesday at Riverwalk Stadium.
Jhan Carlos Javier hit a two-RBI double in the third inning. Jacob Perez hit a two-RBI single in the fourth and scored twice. Ivan Del Villar hit an RBI double in the first. Tyson Minter pinch-hit in the sixth and hit an RBI single. Abel Rodriguez went 2-for-4 and scored two runs batting in the leadoff position for the first time this season. Amir Mason went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
Jaylen Cream started his second postseason game and pitched his first career shutout. He held the Golden Bears to four hits and struck out three. He allowed two runners to reach with one out in the fifth. He got a groundball and catcher Brendan Mendoza caught a runner stealing to end the inning.
Wiley (29-19) got on the board when Jacob Perez walked and scored on Del Villar's double with two outs. Rodriguez led off the third with a walk. He stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Mason brought him home with a two-out single, which set up Javier's double.
The Wildcats plated five runs in the fourth inning. Kai Woodard led off with a walk. Ajari Camp and Rodriguez reached with bunt singles to load the bases. Perez extended the lead to six with his two-run single. Ryan Ready followed with a double. Perez scored on Mason's ground ball to second. Javier recorded his third RBI with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Ready.
Wiley will face the top seed Talladega College at 9 a.m. Thursday in a rematch of the GCAC Baseball Championship. The winner advances to the winner's bracket final at 9 a.m. Friday and faces the winner of No. 2 seed Bluefield State University and Edward Waters University. The loser will play No. 6 seed Florida Memorial University at 4 p.m. Thursday.
