Men's Basketball falls to GCAC leader Tougaloo
TOUGALOO, Miss. - The Wiley University men's basketball team saw its season-long winning streak come to an end with a 73-47 loss to the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference leader Tougaloo College Saturday at Kroger Gymnasium.
The Wildcats (12-11, 8-7 GCAC) had won their previous four games. For the second consecutive game, they were without their top two scorers Delor Johnson, who is leading the GCAC in scoring, and Demarius Pitts.
Wiley struck first with a 3-pointer by Shamir Mosley and a jumper by Devon Barshow. Tougaloo went on an eight-point run, holding the Wildcats scoreless for five minutes. Tayvion Fisher hit a 3-pointer to give the lead back to the Wildcats. The Bulldogs outscored Wiley 12-2 in two minutes. Barshow scored while being fouled, which cut the margin to four. Tougaloo scored 14 unanswered and took a 44-26 lead into the locker room.
The Wildcats did not rally in the second half as the Bulldogs opened the second half with a 12-point run. Wiley shot 19.4 percent and only made four of 28 three-point attempts.
Fisher led the Wildcats with 13 points. Barshow followed with 11 points and nine rebounds. Jalen Bates led the team with four assists and three steals.
