
EWC Wins Weather Shortened Softball Doubleheader Against Morris
Jacksonville, Florida-After being away from action for a little over a week, the Edward Waters (15-21) softball squad returned home on Saturday afternoon for a doubleader against the Lady Hornets of Morris College (0-6) at J. Gardner "Nip" Sams Park. The Lady Tigers were able to take both games of the doubleheader, winning Game One 11-0 in Five Innings and 2-0 in a weather shortened Game Two.
Game One: Edward Waters 11, Morris 0 (Five Innings)
Edward Waters was dominant in the opening game of the doubleheader against Morris as two Lady Tiger pitchers combined to throw a two-hit shutout. Jerri Mae Bedenbaugh induced a fly out from Morris' Taylor Blackmon to finish off the game.
The Lady Tigers secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the third inning. EWC's big bats in the inning were led by doubles by Nicole James and Samantha Hiley, a walk by Rachel Duckworth and Brashell Keys, and solo home run a home run by Hiley.
One bright spot for Morris was a single by Irie Holloman in the third inning.
Gabrielle Williamson earned the victory in the circle for Edward Waters. She allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out three and walking zero. Bedenbaugh hrew two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Kelston Hilton took the loss for the Lady Hornets, allowing nine hits and 11 runs over four innings.
EWC racked up nine hits with Hiley and Ashley Combast each had three hits for Edward Waters.
Game Two: Edward Waters 2, Morris 0 (Rain Shortened):
Edward Waters was up 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning of Game Two with base loaded before lightning in the area and several delays caused the game to be halted. Both Morris and EWC coaches agreed to call the game and give Edward Waters the victory.
Alyssa Fonda earned the victory in the pitcher's circle for the Lady Tigers allowing just one hit and one strikeout.
Edward Waters will honor their seniors as they play in the final home game of their collegiate careers on Wednesday, April 11 in a doubleheader against city rival, Trinity Baptist. First pitch from J. Gardner "Nip" Sams Park is set for 12:00pm.
